PAOLO MAGGIS15 MILLION K
Monza, from 25 January to 25 February 2018
Serrone di Villa Reale - Reggia di Monza
Curated by Valentina Casacchia
From 25 January to 25 February 2018, the Orangery of the Royal Palace - Royal Residence of Monza (Serrone della Villa Reale - Reggia di Monza) will host the exhibition "15 million K" by Paolo Maggis which, curated by Valentina Casacchia, presents a series of twenty large-scale paintings, from his most recent production.
15 million Kelvin, the title chosen for the solo show refers to the right necessary temperature allowing the birth of a star, as well as indicating the core of the closest star to man, the Sun.
By paraphrasing the physical fact of the collision from which a new star comes to life and the heat, the artist reflects on the creative strength of painting, revealing its power and actuality.
The fundamental subject of his work is painting, a body that moves freely in an architecture of different grammars and registers thus determining the visual dynamics and the transmission of energy.
The subject-reference, bond to the corporeity, becomes for the painting a mental reason to express itself in large and energetic brushstrokes weaving a complex and articulated visual structure, sometimes through bright and contrasting colours, some others through tepid and tonal ones.
Always attracted by the gestures of the pictorial action, Paolo Maggis focuses on a new research trajectory, all turned toward the expressive vigour of the medium.
The painter Paolo Maggis (Milan, 1978) studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, lives and works between Milan and Barcelona. He has exhibited in important museums, including Palazzo Forti in Verona, Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, Cini Foundation in Venice, Klinger Forum in Leipzig, Osthaus Museum in Hagen.
