DIALOGHI: FABRIZIO BELLOMO - PETER FEND
Office Project Room
Milan, from 11 December 2019 to 11 March 2020
Fabrizio Bellomo, Archetipo Villaggio Cavatrulli, stampa su carta fotografica, 42 x 29 cm, 2010-19
In Milan, from 11 December 2019 to 11 March 2020, Office Project Room presents “Dialoghi: Fabrizio Bellomo - Peter Fend”, curated by PHROOM and with the critical text by Luca Panaro.
The exhibition brings into dialogue the works “Villaggio Cavatrulli” (2010-19) by Fabrizio Bellomo (Bari, 1982) and “Sicilia 1” (2018) by Peter Fend (1950, Columbus, Ohio), granted by the gallery Pinksummer Contemporary Art. Within the series of shows “Dialoghi”, which combines the researches of young artists with the works of established ones, the exhibition project aims to stimulate reflections on their different methodologies, references, influences and less explicit similarities.
The images by Fabrizio Bellomo concern the folds of the Apulian landscape identifying in an architectural archipelago of waste, marked by the exploitation left by the activity of quarrying and extraction of building materials, an opportunity to define a new possible condition of living. “Villaggio Cavatrulli”, stretched between an illuminating planning and utopian expression, proposes an environmental view that invites us to modify our ways of experiencing the places we pass through every day, alchemically elaborating a set of tailings architectures, production and valorisation scraps up to the paradigmatic expression of a living otherness.
Through isolated and residual elements, recognized after accurate explorations of the entire Apulian territory, the work puts the inland of the province of Lecce into dialogue with the coast of Bari, highlighting an original common matrix of the two territories and creating an opening or a trespassing, whose traits remind the voracious and militant visionary planning of other authorial practices, such as that of Peter Fend, who deals with questions of geopolitics, issues of sustainability and an innovative policy idea connected to the management of natural resources.
An important voice on the international scene, the American artist intertwines art, architecture, engineering and other disciplines, trying to suggest to the world a new course with a more conscious use of the resources of hydrographic basins, seas and oceans, and through project proposals that rethink the world energy equilibrium. His considerations originate from the awareness of being able to obtain from art the necessary instruments to respond to the problems of the contemporary world. His approach boasts the certainty of the non-uniqueness of the work and its possible repeatability in an expanded vision beyond the context of art itself.
For the occasion, the shreds of the Apulian landscape derived from stone mining activities are exhibited together with the images of analogous situations mapped in other territories with similar configuration, such as the Sicilian coast of Mazara del Vallo and Favignana and the surroundings of Matera, offering in this way a very first extension of the initial research.
Office Project Room was founded in Milan in 2018 by the collector and entrepreneur Francesco Macchi and the artist Matteo Cremonesi, to whose direction the gallery manager Giangiacomo Cirla has joined one year later. Located within a finance and real-estate workplace, it presents the work by emerging and mid-career artists through experimental and research exhibition projects, including “Dialoghi” which brings into dialogue the artworks by younger and established names and “Garden” dedicated to sculptural installations especially conceived for the outdoor space.
